Single Hung Windows
Single hung windows slide up and down vertically to open and can stay in place. It is named a single hung because there is only one way to open it and that’s from the bottom. In a single-hung window, there are two sashes (panels); the top sash is fixed while the bottom sash moves up and down. They can only be opened about halfway and when you fully open the window, the top sash view is still partially covered.
Looking at the windows it may be a little difficult to tell the difference between single and double-hung because their window features are very similar but the easiest way to tell them apart is to look below the top sash on the exterior of the window.
